Either the day, when my son phoned me from his new university city, 500 kilometer from here, and told me, that he now liked to be there, or a certain Sunny day in my summerhouse in Sweden, when I saw two Moose’s grass on our ground – or the day, when I and my pygmy-friends came out from the jungle in Cameroon after days and nights with toxic spiders and snakes.
2
Worüber haben Sie sich 2011 am meisten geärgert?
The senseless talk here in Denmark about publishing e-books simultaneously with the printed book without thinking of the bookshops (and the publishers, and printers). The whole future of a very delicate business depends on that we take the right decisions and try to see a little ahead in the future. Just like what’s going on in the discussions about the future of EEC.
3
Was war 2011 Ihr schönster Erfolg?
Professionally I had so many, but the wonderful prize of the Golden Laurels in Denmark was extremely unforgettable.
4
Und Ihr traurigster Misserfolg war…?
My personal belief in how much better our new government Denmark could do it compared to the former incompetent one that ruled us the last 11 years. Until now they didn’t succeed at all with all their broken promises. But I am still confident and still full of hope.
5
Ihre schönste Buchhandlung/Ihr liebster Verlag im letzten Jahr?
In Germany I love all the bookstores since they treated me so incredibly nice. But of course my heart is bleeding for the small and very often independent shops fighting for their existence like the wonderful shop in Lünen: Lippe Buchhandlung. I surely hope shops like this will have a future in the broad and vivid landscape of German bookshops and book chains.
And of course: my favorite publishing house is my own DTV. Yes, you smile, but here I found not only one of the most well functioned publishing houses I ever saw (and I am an old publisher myself,) but also so many wonderful human beings that I now worship like family.
6
I think that there is published too many biography’s about people doing nothing to brag about. Please let them be forgotten without any glorification.
7
I would like to be flooded by books about ideas that could move the world and the ones ruling it in a direction, where I could see a safe and warm future for our kids and grandchildren.
8
I simply must learn to say no thanks to all the nice and well-meaning suggestions I have every day. Since I was so bad in that in 2011 I didn’t succeed to write a new novel this year. Instead I had a lot of wonderful experiences and meeting in several countries, but anyway: the books must come first.
9
Und welchen Fehler werden Sie wiederholen?
As you could expect I already said yes to come to Spain, The Czech republic, Germany (on several occasions), Great Britain and a lot of public relation work here in Denmark with all sorts of media. My wife now is interfering on this and helps me now back to the writing desk. For that I am extremely grateful.
10
To be honest, I didn’t read much this year. But with a smile I can say that I enjoyed Erbarmen very much when I read it again last week after four years, and because I had to discuss it very thoroughly with the producers of the movie. But apart from that I loved to read Erlend Loe’s (Norwegian writer): Volvo Lastvagnar.
11
In Germany the publishing of „Das Alfabethaus“ is very important for me, so that the German reader can learn another side of me as a writer, but my actual writing of „Sonderdezernat Q“ number 5 and the simultaneously writing on a stand-alone book: „The Illustrated Chinaman „is also very, very important for me. And then I look forward to read the novels of writers like Ferdinand von Schirach, Julian Barnes, Jonathan Franzen and Tom Rachman.
12
Some of the old guys and girls that we do not hear from anymore. The authors that do not write anymore because of their age or the fact that they suddenly dried out. I will not mention any specific names, they all count. You know: Some day we will all be one of them, if we live long enough. So how is it to be a writer, when not writing anymore? What is life then?
13
What will be the most wonderful thing happening in 2012 for me and my family and the world?
14
Hier können Sie die auch beantworten:
I would really love to know the answer.
